We have just erected a new stable block for our own private use - the land is about 5mins from our house and the household insurer will not cover it. Can anyone recommend a good insurance company - we have had quotes varying from £200>300+ but all seem to include public liability - do you have to have this? Our horses are covered separately and already have this cover but I am told you need it just in case any one gets injured on your land?

Do you own the land and the stables? When is your house insurance up for renewal? Depending on what you have you could try Lycetts insurance brokers. They insure farms and estates. However (I used to work for the insurer of their policies), they will cover your house and land/stables on a 'estate policy'. I did this for my parents as we/they own 12 acres and some stables in the same village as the house but a few minutes drive away. They can do it this way.

Hi, we too have had this problem.
We moved our house insurance to NFU and they will also cover the land and stables not attached to the house. Our yard is also less than a mile from our house.

Or insure separately which we did until we could merge the two insurances. This was more expensive than insuring together.

Hope that helps.
