My horse starting coming in of a night about 2 weeks ago and everything was fine. Her neighbour ( gelding) constantly stands close to her stable and stares at her. Anyway, the YO approached me last week and told me that the gelding had gone out of the stable to be worked and my horse wasnt happy but when they bought the gelding back to his stable my horse double barrelled the wall in between them and then leant against it with her body. She was obviousl very stressed at this point. When i arrived the following morning she was her usual quiet self. Unfortunately, since then she has been out 24/7 as the wall is being fixed and slats added so the gelding cant touch or stare at her over the wall. My problm now is when i bring her into the stable to tack her up she is so stressed and today i couldnt ride because she was so worked up, banging against the door and box walking, calling etc( no other horses were in) - i just wondered what peoples thoughts were on here please:)

She sounds stressed. I would try some distraction tactics, like a likit, a mirror, hang a lavender oil soaked rag to encourage calm. Make her stable a great place to be in. Also bear in mind she is not really used to the routine yet as you have only been stabling 2 weeks ago, hopefully time will help her settle too.

I had 2 mares (one was daughter's and has moved now) and the one little mare always bossed my big mare around in the paddock. Once stabled next door to each other with a talking grill between the stables my mare would continually kick at the dividing wall in temper. This continued for a while, always with her R/H and my back lady stressed I needed to act as she was misaligning her pelvis doing this. I closed in the talking grill with wood and that was it end of the kicking!

I think horses can wind each other up.

Good luck :)

Many thanks for your input - iam sure she enjoys making me worry about her:rolleyes: I have just ordered a stale mirror for her so hopefully this will help :)

Hmm, distractions are a good plan. It's that or maybe ask if you can move boxes to separate the pair of them.

One of my girls can be very stressy when her friend leaves. They're not next door to each other and it only happens sometimes, entirely at random, so I tend to just ignore it and/or toss her out in the field to calm down, which she immediately does. But a few years back I had one of my mares and my gelding next door to each other (with no option to move) and it was a nightmare. He used to pick up his bucket and drag it along the bars to wind her up or throw his ball at her. I ended up blocking off the bars with panels of wood (probably like you are doing) and feeding her some magnesium so that she was less upset by his trouble-making tactics!
