My mother's old Staff girl had to be pts a while ago, and my mother now feels it's time to get another. She would ideally like a rescue, but has been put off by unreasonable expectations by rescue centres she has previously tried (Dogs Trust, RSPCA).
She is a gardener, and would want to take the dog with her to work, in various different private properties. For some reason this seems to make rescues twitchy, even though my mother has always had dogs with her at work in the past and the property owners have no problem with it.

As well as being with her in the gardens most of the day, the dog would also accompany her to the yard to do the horses, and would rarely be left on its own.

Does anyone know of a rescue centre based in the south-east that would be more sensible about what homes their dogs go to? Or know of any young Staff or Staff X bitches needing a loving home?

I work for Scottish Staffie rescue and we give to all sorts, people in flats, no garden, full time work etc

To be honest we can't be that fussy we have so many dogs needing a home and as long as there walked, fed and loved in our eyes the dog will be happy

I'd try your local stafford rescue first you will find them easier to deal with rather than the big charities.

I doubt any staffies rescue would reject your mother.

Battersea dogs home are brilliant, lovely dogs, really well assessed and sensible about rehoming. They have other branches as well as the one in London.

What a shame you're not in the north west, we would rehome to your mother in a heartbeat and I have a fabulous bitch she would love. I agree try one of the staffy breed rescues - many have fosterers and homecheckers all over the place and they will be desperate for a home as good as the one your mum is offering.

If you want a youngster local pounds may be worth looking at too - lots of young stray staffs in most of them and many don't do homechecks. Obviously they will have no history but if you're looking for something young that will be less of an issue than if you were looking for an older dog who will be more established in its behaviours.

There was a lovely one on TV from Battersea with Paul O'Gradey. He is missing a front leg so they are finding it difficult to re home him. It didn't seem to affect him at all. Such a shame as he's struggling in kennels.

There used to be a lovely rescue centre in benfleet called acres way kennels not sure if there still running but its where I got my staffy from when she was one shes fifteen and a half now . They were lovely people the lady who ran it was called sue . Hope this helps good luck staffys are fantastic dogs x

Try Last Chance rescue in Edenbridge, I got my dog from there 4 years ago New Years Eve. They loved the fact that he would be going everywhere with me - to work, check on horses etc.
Person who did our homecheck was really friendly and encouraging. She ignored the half-decorated house and messy garden.

Please contact Stafford Welfare. We have branches around the UK (including John Laker at South East) and they will find your mother a lovely dog. BTW… the membership secretary is a landscape gardener and some of her dogs come with her to work!. PM if you need names/direct intros etc. 3 of my staffords came directly through Welfare and no 4 was their fault too as I was helping on their stand when the owner came up enquiring about rehoming…
