Today was our first full event of the season and i've had a nervous excitement all week as I couldn't wait to get back out there. Anyway, i'll stop waffling and tell you how we did:

Dressage: last year, this was the phase that let us down so ive been working really hard on it over the winter and Shrimp has really improved. He was really relaxed and so was I so I attempted our first ever test in sitting trot

as we're going have to do it to impress the JRN selectors. We scored 32.4 which put us 3rd after dressage

with the two people infront being professional riders so I was/am really happy!

SJ: as we've been working on our dressage, i've done less showjumping and it did show today. We had two poles, one which was my fault and the other was Shrimp as he thought the grey and pink wall was very scary and didnt want to jump it initially so we had a very ungraceful jump over that one! I was still pleased though as last time we went SJ we had a cricket score and overall I thought he jumped very well but its our first event so its something to work on over the next 3 weeks before our next one.

XC: he was a machine round the XC, it felt really easy and nothing phased him at all. We finished about 35 seconds under the optimum time

but as mum said, we've got to practise for Novice!

We ended up out of the placings I think but had we not had the two poles, we would have been second

so tis very promising and overall im pleased. I was surprised how fantastic the ground was and it was presented beautifully. I bought a pro pic which looks like we're flying

so will post it up when i get it through.
Thanks for reading

well done, fantastic dressage and hard luck on the sj but am sure as the season goes on you'll have all 3 phases good on the same day

Thanks everyone, am still beaming as im just really happy to be out there doing it again.
Weezy - thats what my instructor said, all we need is a little more practise!

shame about the SJ poles but what a promising start to the season!!

what time were you XC as we watched it from 1 - 2pm this afternoon? Yes have to agree with you the fences were presented very well. Which fence jumping did you get the photo of?

We went just before 1 I think though I cant really remember. You may have seen me, a chestnut with black and yellow colours going rather fast

Picture is over the 4th fence, the roll top with the hedge on top which was rather big?!

It's taken from below so it looks even bigger with us coming down on the landing side and he's giving it miles

Well done! I followed yr progress throughout the day. I spent the whole weekend in the scorers caravan 0 OMG, it is such hard work!! OH would have commented on you going XC too! Good on you and see yo on the 15th - I won't have my new pony though as it failed the vetting. Looking at a few this week though!

saw loads so will have to see the photo to see if I remember you jumping. That hedge was bloody huge
shocked.gif
did you do the smaller shaped one with the hedge on top or the bogger straight one with hedge on top? The larger one was massive I would have said about 3'9" easily (well it was above boob height and I use my body to measure jumps with
blush.gif
ie knee height is 2' and so on

)

The bigger straight one!! I guessed it was around 4' judging by my body measurements! Twas level with my chest and it was thick brush aswell and Shrimp doesnt understand the concept of brush fences, well not ones that thick anyway!
Will post pic when I get it through which should be in the next week or so.

yes friend we walked round with does BE and she said they are supposed to go through the brush but we touched it and I'm sorry but there is no way the horses could go through that without shredding their belly
shocked.gif
can't wait to see the photo it should be pretty impressive especially if taken from below as there was quite a drop in ground going away from that one!

Yep we thought that about the Intro brus (shaped one) it can be upto 20cm bigger than max height, so would have stood at 1.10m and NO WAY was it brushable through!!
