Hi we rescued a staffy dog and were told she was fed mainly pasta meals.

She seems to be a real fussy eater so I am trying to work out what to feed. We have seen the vet, had vaccinations and wormed and had a check up.

Vet advised to put food down if she doesnt eat take it up again and after a number of days she will eventually eat it. (I dont like doing this as shes missing meals and going hungry some days).

She wont touch wet dog food out a can at any cost.
She will eat some Bakers complete small dog or Hi-Life mince pellets but only if I put Pate or chicken or sausages mixed in.
She will eat pasta with tuna but having to cook my dog a dinner every day isnt practical.
She does seem to like chubb dog food in a roll if I cut it up into squares but this smells terrible and also Im told its not good quality dog food?

Can anyone recommend anything? I dont mind paying -just as long as she eats it!

I got my rescue five days ago and he was the same, for the first three days he actually ate nothing at all.... I perservered, putting out some dry food for him, moistened with a little warm water twice a day and took it away after an hour if he didn't eat it. He refused to touch it and apart from some teeny tiny cubes of cooked chicken when training, he ate nothing else. On the third night, i put four of the teeny tiny chicken cubes on the dry food and he wolfed the whole lot down! He is now eating just the dried food. Don't worry, he won't starve himself, pasta really isn't good for him.... mine has fish4dogs which is quite smelly but he now loves it!!!

Leave it for ten minutes, if she doesn't eat it, lift it.
I take it her teeth are OK?
Don't stand over her and watch her eat, they feel that as pressure.
Drop the Bakers, it's a rubbish food.

Skinners or Wainwrights if on a budget.
Try Prize Choice blocks from Pets at Home if she prefers wet food, just defrost and feed, they come in tripe, chicken, rabbit, fish etc and they also do home deliveries and bulk orders.

just as your vet and others have said. put her food down and leave her to it. if she hasnt eaten then take it away. she will not starve herself: she will eat eventually.

i use wainwrights and feel that it is a decent dry food without being too pricey. i dont use tinned dog food, but mix in a tin of mackerel or sardines (drained of oil) instead. ;)

with regards the pasta: this is not a good food for dogs as it is made of wheat, which dogs are not designed to digest. (all cheap nasty dog foods are crammed full of wheat and other cereal grains, and is why they are not reccomended! ;) )

i also add in 20 mls of apple cider vinegar (from the saddlers!) to her dinner- its good for them, and is appetizing. ;)
