I have a 2 and a half year old JRTx fox terrier. Wibble is the loveliest terrier, so UN-terrier like. Loves all other dogs, always wants to play, loves a cuddle etc. I was at an RSPCA centre at the weekend and had a mooch around the dogs. Instantly fell in love with a little 3 year old male, black and tan Staffy. He was SUCH a sweetie. Took him for a walk around the complex and was good as gold. He'd only been castrated the day before so wasn't allowed off lead, but was so good on lead, no pulling, called his name and he turned round and looked at me at sat, tail wagging constantly. He loves all other dogs which bodes well.

Went and got Wibble to introduce them to each other, both on leads. Both dogs tails were wagging away happily, they tried playing with each other, although got a bit tangled in leads etc. Wibble did lunge at the staffy with mouth open but tail still wagging, the staffy still had tail wagging, but backed off a little bit, almost submissive? I'm hoping to go back this weekend with Wibble as the staff will be allowed off the lead, and can let them off in an enclosed area to have a proper run around and see what happens. If all goes well, I should think I'll be getting him reserved!

I've not really had any experience with staffs before. He's a chunky little man, but shorter than Wibble. Is there anything I need to watch out for that's typical in staffs? If I do have him, he'll be going to obedience classes straight away, and flyball training :) also, how have other people introduced a new dog to the home? Wibble is left in the kitchen when I'm at work, my mum pops over at lunchtime to let him out, give him a play etc. Would it be too risky to leave them both in kitchen on their own etc?

Any advice - much appreciated!

Watch out for face licking, snogging, bed hogging, the full body wiggle, the crazy zoomies, staffy chatting, and those "you know you want to give me anything I require" eyes- which generally means whatever you have- they need some- socks- food- sofa space- bed space- the list is endless.

Also they can be a bit human clingy- so watch out for separation anxiety. I wouldn't shove two unknown dogs in one room and then leave them straight off the bat- I'd have to be 110% confident they were ALWAYS going to be fine with one another.

Staff's can be known to be a bit dog aggro- obviously not all- and don't forget the REP- some folk WILL actively avoid you because of the breed (they are eejoits)

He sounds lovely but it has to be said WHERE ARE THE PICS :)

I get the zoomies, body wiggles, etc with Wibble so used to that! He's smaller than Wibble, but more chunky :) I didn't take a photo :( and he's not on the RSPCA site but will take a photo at the weekend :-)

Oh I wasn't planning on getting them together and leaving them straight off!! There shall be no bed hogging as mine is cage trained and so will the new one if I get him!

What do you mean by staffy chatting?

They talk to you lol. Mine does it all the time. I ask him what he wants and he wah wah wah's back at me. They make the strangest noises sometimes :) my absolute favourite dogs in the world. Never have I had such a loving and loyal dog. My terriers are loving but they live to please themselves, the staffy just wants to please people full stop. Good luck :)

Awesome :) I think they're lovely dogs, just misunderstood with the rep they've been given from certain owners!

When I was looking round said RSPCA centre, there was a bull mastiff in there, majorly solid, scars all over him, could instantly tell what sort of home he'd come from! How to put it, a chav was looking at him saying "you'd be good for me, perfect for what I want, I'll come back for you" - mad me SOO ANGRY! GRRR!

Staffies are not a dog to sit in a corner. They want to be with you and give great hugs, they are highly energetic, and are chatty....
