Is there any experiances doing the stage 1? Good or bad? :) (I really want to do it myself, so your experiances would help me realise what to expect)

really good day and i passed with only one cross in the care part :) and that was for a bloody tail bandage haha.

i found it quite easy as they don't expect too much of you, and if you make a mistake or aren't sure of an answer they let you take a minute to think about it.

you have to fill in a load of forms first then i did the sit down theory where we had to talk about feed, management of fields/stables, bedding etc. then the practical bit were you had to fit rugs, fit tack, groom, tie haynets up etc. then the riding which was basically a big group lesson of walk trot canter, then swap horses and pole work in trot, then standing a horse up for inspection after you'd ridden and trotting in hand as if a vet were watching then a few points of the horse. :)

everything you needed for the practical ie rugs etc were all outside the stable and the correct tack, then the horses were all tacked up and in the arena waiting for us. they also really make you feel at ease and really comfortable :)
hope this helps.

It definatly helps so thank you!

I did mine at Moulton College and passed first time. :) The horses there were lovely, and all of the staff and examiners were friendly and helpful. The Examiners allow for you being a bit nervous because it is your first BHS exam and you don't know what to expect. They also don't mind if you just give simple answers to questions as they don't expect you to go into too much detail for Stage 1.

Jam, it's basically feed, rugs, a tail bandage, field maintenance, stable maintenance (i.e mucking out, how lethal haynets are), how to weigh a haynet and riding over trot poles.

Just make sure you're not on Toby for the last part and you'll live.
