Did my Stage 1 in December and been revising the theory and having lots of riding lessons and riding my horse. Yet to start formal training but should be v soon.
Just wanted to hear from anyone who has taken the exam with any advice or experiences?

I ride 6 days per week and work at a riding school 3 times a week so am around horses all the time. However I havnt had much lungeing experience as the horses I deal with dont need to be lunged v often, ive just lunged briefly a couple of times.
Would September be a good time to take the exam?

Any advice much appreciated!!

I took mine 2 weeks ago and passed.
Obviously the theory is a case of stick your head in a book and learn it.
Practical - get as much practice bandaging, plaiting, tacking up for lungeing so it comes naturally.
Lungeing - with or without side reins - just make sure the horse is going forward that your equipment is organised and you are safe.
Riding - I would suggest having lessons with a BHS instructor as there is definately a 'BHS way of riding'.They are looking for a specific way for things to be done and although you may be effective they may mark you down.
Having said all that I think if you are prepared to work hard September should be fine.

Good luck!!

Have a lesson with a BHS instructor, that's the only way you can tell how much time you need.

But you really should lunge as much as possible. It's one section LOADS of people fail on!

Thanks for that! I think im going to just go for it then! My instructor is an AI so knows what they are looking for, i just need to keep practicing fingers crossed :)
