The BHS recommended reading list is a useful resource - http://www.britishhorse.com/edit/files/PDFs/recreading1-4-.pdf

It covers most of the books I was going to recommend!! In particular the Equine Stud Management, The Equine Nutrition Bible and The Art of Lungeing (If you are going to take the luging section, which is part of the riding section at stage 4 but a seperate unit so you can take it without riding).

NOTHING beats practical experience. You can learn a lot from books but Stage 4 is also very much about experience and informed opinion. Visit yards, find out how they run, what they feed, why they do things a particular way, etc etc.
