Does anyone know anything about this stallion - am thinking of purchasing a youngster but would like more info - especially if they make good jumping horses would be great - any info on temprement, or even better pics if you have any would be great - thanks!!

Yes I know of him. He is a very nice grey stallion, not too hefty considering he's half ID, and was jumped down here (Cornwall) by a guy called Clive Philips at county level. I never went and said hello to him but he always seemed to have an excellent temperament and a hell of a pop!

I googled him for you and found this past H and H thread:

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=245192

I also found this article which contains Clive's mobile number if you wanted to chat to him:

And here is the horses BE record (assume he has a BS one too as I always thought he only did pure SJ!):

Clive still has Spence,he lives in St Austell and will talk about him happily, don't think he does much with him now as he's very busy BS coursebuilding.

Oh thanks so much Polotash thats what i wanted to hear :D - i heard he had a brilliant temprement from what people have told me - but i wanted to make sure he had a good jump as well as hoping to showjump mine! thats brilliant - i hope if his dad picks up well mine does too!! knowing me i'll get the dud! ha ha - was it big fences he was doing can you remember ? sorry for the questions!

Yes I,ve met More Expense when Clive used to jump my mare, but I don't think he went much above Newcomers, you need to speak to Clive.I think he would breed a decent allrounder rather than a superstar, but I may be very wrong.

thats brilliant well they have to start somewhere don't they and even a half decent nice horse is a start! - i will talk to clive thanks for the info - what was more expense like was he a nice build etc? i've been told he's pure white is he? did he seem level headed?

I have a lovely gelding by him and have owned mine since he was 2.5 and he is now 8. He is quite big - 17.2hh but has the most lovely temprement. He can be quirky at times and I have heard that KoD lines can be.

He is now doing very well eventing in just a hand full of runs over the last couple of years. We have taken it slowly with him as I think they need time to mature.

He has a fantastic jump and moves nicely as well and is very well put together!

I would never part with mine even though we have been offered huge amounts of money for him. I would def get another one if I had the chance!

I think More Expense is full ID as mine is half IDxTB and isn't at all chunky!

Oh wow TTS thats brilliant news - mine is a good 16.3 now at just 4 so i think hes going to be a big lad but thats fine by me i'm 5'10 so i can get away with that he's just the gentlest giant - he's coming in a week so can't wait to get started - do you have any pics of yours just so i can gauge a rough idea - has More expense got KOD blood lines ?

The fences looked huuuge to me, but I do stressage so everything looks big! I thought he jumped him in the big classes a Royal Cornwall at Stithians, but could be wrong.

If he is pure ID he certainly doesn't look it, he isn't heavy at all. I think one of those links I posted had his dam and sire so you can find out easily enough.

When I saw him he was dappled iron grey, but that must be 12-15 years ago now.

Thanks you've been brilliant - i really hope my lad stays dappled least i can blend the mud then lol ! i will have a look and see thanks so much

I've looked up on BSJA horse search and the only Grey that is coming up with the name More Expense is More Expense VII which is an 18 year old stallion 170cm height but he has no BSJA winnings at all.

I met this stallion at the weekend :), he's bloody gorgeous!!!! I am buying a foal from clive and richard and was having a look at my foals sire (update) and then they let out Spence.. wow - gorgeous and moves so nicely. From what i gathered from Clive, he's done all sorts and won all sort's. Very nice type, friendly, easy to handle (led in and out of stable by just a lead rope around the neck)... Plenty of horse but not to heavy - ideal jumping/xc type (i would say personally). He's now white completely and retired (i think) - don't think he's covering mare's anymore.

I know this is a very old post but wandering if anyone still has a more expense baby?
Also what did you end up doing with them? Sj? Eventing?
