I was speaking to my boys breeders today (I hope to get some more information from them tomorrow) I know his sire was sold a few years ago through kivells sales, I thought he had been gelded afterwards but apparently not, he has produced a small selection of foals in addition to the two I knew about...

He'd be about 16.3, skewbald, sired by appledore marengo, about seven years old (give or take a year) I think he has some Shaab in there too.

Anyway, he was sold to a chap in north Cornwall, who apparently was recently diagnosed with m.s, maybe this may trigger someone's knowledge.

I would love to get in touch with his owner or acquire a photo somehow of bens sire. So if anyone thinks they know who it is, could you pm me please?

Just to add to your enquiry, Appledore Marengo died aged 10, born 1993 so died 2003, the sire of Ben would be at least 9 if the dam was covered in 2003, just been looking on allbreed he seems to have sired some later, so either frozen semen or the info that he died aged 10 is wrong but it comes up in different places.

Does the breeder of Ben have no idea of the stallions name, surely if they used him to cover mares he would have been registered or at least passported this may help you track him down.

Frozen pop i assume as there are I think some younger ones around by him and he has only just recently come off shoverns website.

It was the may kivells sale 2010 this is the listing he was lot 46:
4yo Skewbald Colt, 16.2hh
Sire: Appledore Marengo Dam: Shabb
Covered a few mares, wasted at present, would event, cross country and hunt, kind temperament, easy to handle

AM did die at ten, of colic I believe :( I completely forgot the name the breeders used... Something like Henry (am sure it began with h) and it was very plain, so possibly just his stable name. but they only used him to cover bens dam twice before selling, and put unknown down for sire, so will check, although when chatting to them earlier (well her parents since she is away with her husband and kids) her parents just referred to him as the coloured stallion! Going to try and get some more info tomorrow.

Do you have the breeders contact details in Ben's passport? Might be worth writing to them. Good luck.

Yes, I spoke to the breeder tonight, she is a friend... I actually saw Ben when he was two weeks old when me and my ex went there for a barbecue. But she is away on her hols so I only spoke long enough to get her parents number as I'm off to see them tomorrow, however, they take an active role in the horsey bit, so will drill them for information. It's lovely to think Ben has more brothers and sisters :). Apparently his full sister is still only a few miles away and doing really well, all of them have such a willing temperament he's certainly produced some good babies :D

He may have been an unproven stallion but I believe he is also competing and doing well and certainly his babies are little crackers, but then this family have been breeding and showing for years, so they would have known what they were doing :). It was really nice too, they show at the county shows and were really encouraging on the phone tonight... Going to take them some pictures tomorrow so they can see how he looks x
