Stallion info

Hi. I am a stud manager on a showjumping yard and we are standing 5 stallions this year. I have had an idea about making portfolios for each of the stallions to show people when they come for a look round. I thought that they could be done like a scrap book and put press clippings, competition photos and pictures of their babies in them. We have a well known old stallion and it would be easy to put together all the info and pictures for him but to be honest he is still so popular people dont need much persuasion to use him. The others are young stallions, so it might be nice to keep adding to theirs to chart their progress and hopefully success! Does this sound like a good idea or does it sound like we are trying too hard?

Hi Barley, I think that this is a brilliant idea, and as a mare owner I really like anything that helps me get to know more about the stallion, his offspring, competition achievements, etc, etc .... Certainly don't think it would come across as trying too hard - having been to Zangersheide Open Days a couple of weeks ago, you realise how slcik the presentation is on the continent. A bit of me likes the fact that we are a bit more easy-going in the UK, but I do think that many studs in the UK have a way to go to provide what mare owners are looking for, and to present their stallions more professionally - so go for it! (And keep the good ideas coming!)

No, that sounds excellent. I would love to know up to date info on stallions and how they are faring competitively and as sires. I'd rather someone that tried hard than feeling like I'm trying to get blood out of a stone to get just a recent photo!!!

I think competition for British stallion owners is getting stiffer all the time as more mare owners venture into using stallions based in mainland Europe. So anything you can do to promote your stallions is a good thing iMHO. Your idea sounds great and should really help mare owners decide which of your stallions would suit their mare
