I wonder what other stud books do?

Some questions coming into CBHS from members in other parts of the world.

If a mare who is on the grading register (which means she is not 100%) has a foal by a stallion who has not been licensed, but does subsequently get his license is the foal accepted into the main stud book?

Vetting question? Would a stallion with just one testicle pass a five stage vetting?

If you bred from a stallion with just one testicle, is it likely there would be inherited problems for future generations or is the lack of one just an unusual glitch?

A stallion with one testicle wouldnt pass a grading or vetting unless you could prove the reason he only had one was a non hereditary reason.
Ie he had been kicked and lost one.
Cant answer the rest for you
The answer to breeding to a stallion with one is if he retained one or lost one because of surgery due to an inuingral hernia then yes there would be a risk of passing it on

Thank you Sallyf, I am not surprised by your reply!!

Can someone else guide me to regulations in other stud books with regard to non-licensed stallions who are later licensed. This is not a personal question as both my Shagya and CB stallion are licensed.

the 1st foal i bred was by a stallion who i was led to believe was licensed with the WPCS - turned out that he wasnt! (foal was already born when i finally managed to get a covering certificate for her).
My filly was registered in Section X... but i was told that IF he does get licensed at a later stage, then my mare can move into the main studbook.
The stallion is still with the same owner and despite being for sale for years, he remains at the same stud, and is stil unlicensed :(

[it's upto me as my mares owner to try and keep track of the stallion so if he does go for licensing, i can approach the stud book about my mare - they wouldnt contact me if he went forward etc]

I work for the Standardbred society and if a stallion serves mares before we have approved him for stud duties, the subsequent foals from those matings cannot be registered as full Standardbreds as we will not issue mating certificates.

In France there is only one PIO, The National Stud. They issue what is known as Origin Known passports for progeny of unlicensed stallions.

One of the problems breeders face is that grading is very expensive, it cost us about 1,000 euros for our Shagya colt, inc travel and vetting, yet we don't know how fertile he is yet as we don't have any foals from him.
