Sorry if I've posted in the wrong part of the forum...I thought it could be a medical thing....

My mare has always been bottom of the pile with the other mares, she's never been dominant in the slightest until now. She's had her own paddock for the last 6 months and now has just been introduced into a new paddock with the other girlies (we did it gradually, just in with a placid mare to begin with etc). My mare has turned into a stallion!!! She heards up the other mares, screams, prances about and if any of her girls wee she'll go and wee ontop of it and stand there in a classic stallion pose with her top lip curled, the full works......She was practically mounting on of the others at one point!

Has anyone heard about anything like this before?

Ermmmm kind of heard about it in passing....... but not had anything close up and personal experience with it....

It may just be she has a hormone imbalance.... maybe ask your vet about it. If she has increased levels of oestrogen/testosterone (yes girls have testosterone too...) then this might send her loopy....

Id have a quick natter with your vet and see

BE CAREFULL!
I got a fractured skull through a mare behaving like this, treat her as a stallion for now, with all the safety you would put in for a stallion.

as to why? well the lass that tried to kill me was suffering from ovarian cysts, which sent her hormones wacky,

she was a normal riding school advanced pupil horse, which gradually changed, she even developed a crest.

I believe it was pretty easy to cure, wouldn't know as i was off sick!

she returned to normal except for being a bit more bolshie and mareish, however the vet thought even that would settle with time.

hope this helps bye
