I see from the website that the list of stallions signed up for the SSGB at Addington on the 5th and 6th February is growing all the time, and there are lots of really exciting names! I'm so chuffed that we will now be able to see Power Blade over in the UK; the great Peppermill is on the list; lots of the Whitaker stallions; Primitive Star (I was only looking at the Louella website today and admiring him);Carousel, the sire of Oli Townend's great eventer; Weston Justice, Future Illusion ... and Camblin who eventrider23 mentions on the Clover Hill thread, ridden by Shane Breen. I've been looking for him ever since I saw him jump at Ardingly a couple of years ago! What a feast of great stallions!

I do hope that both the stallion show at Hartpury on the 29th and the SSGB attract big audiences - they really deserve to, and it would be an enormous step forward for breeding in this country if these shows start to generate the levels of attendance, excitement and media coverage that stallion shows get on the continent.

Never know in future that it might be possible to combine such displays as the Hartpury one seems to have attracted lots of dressage stallions whilst SSGB has the most amazing jumpers, etc....put all that together and it really would be some show!

it is a lovely mix of stallions and having been to an open day at Brendon Stud and knowing the amazing organisational skills that Caz and Shirley have for their shows I think this will be a wonderful showcase.

I think it is nice that the two shows are so close together as people can go to them both with all stallions still fresh in their minds and if most stallion owners can go to both even better. It is clearly something that is wanted by the breeding public as the shows are filling fast.

There will be a full editorial on the SSGB in the Jan issue of Horse Breeders Magazine...we always offer to provide free advertising for such events. as yet we have not had anything for the Hartpury parade, but would always be happy to have it....

It seems like the entry list is growing for this by the minute and with stallions I have never seen at public stallion shows before like Crusador (VERY excited to see him), Fantaland, Balloon (as CL said), the Billy stallions (who are also doing a demo) and so many more...I cannot wait!

Just a thought, but I wonder how strongly these shows have been promoted to continental breeders? I would have thought that there might be mare owners and breeders in Europe who could be interested in having a week's holiday over here taking in Hartpury and Addington!

Its an odd comparison, :) but sometimes the current situation as far as UK based stallions are concerned reminds me of the French attitude towards cheese .... Its taken a long time to convince (a good percentage if not all) of the French that we really do make some outstandingly good artisan cheeses in the UK. That's been done through persistent marketing campaigns, and lots of farmers markets in Calais, Dieppe, etc over the years, so the word has gradually spread.

We need to start building a similar interest in UK based stallions!

Ooh, hadn't come across Crusador before, but love the YouTube video of his jumping, and realise that he's related to my monster yearling Chip through Renommee Z....

Should be a great event will there be trade stands? also how is Ballon breed does any one know...Crusador i wanted to use last year, glad C N"s stallions will be there should be a great day out and great venue! not far from me!

Balloon is: Balou du Rouet x Landcapitol x Renoir I - so VERY exciting! I too am excited to see CN's horses coming....there are so many stallions represented that don't usually go to stallion shows. There are pics of MOST of the stallions now on their FB site and videos of some as well.

I believe on looking at the website there are a variety of tradestands as well as table tops available for non present studs to advertise.

Im pleased to see that we have the best of the British on Offer!

Here's hoping that in a few years its actual british bloodline lines that we representing more! Of course we have the super Archie on show so we do have some Native Lines on show at least!

Here's to british breeding!

I so agree with you dianchi, it would be great if all the stallions were British Bred. I can see the Stallion Showcase GB event developing over the next few years to become a major feature in the run up to the breeding season. Mare owner should take advantage of the opportunity to get up close and personal with the possible sires of their future stock.

Totally agree with you Dianchi and CL. Unfortunately not all bloodlines are British bred as in order to improve the quality of our breeding outside lines are brought in, however what is great to see is that all the stallions listed are UK based or owned and so in essence the best of british!

So true, we must use the best of the lines to improve the gene pool in the country. I am sure that as time moves on, we will get to see more British bred horses amongst those imported stallions. It is GREAT to know that every stallion on display at SSGB is not only BRITISH based, but it is also BRITISH owned, fantastic.

I am getting every excited now.

CL - so true and hopefully if this goes well they can build on their success and more people with British breeds will enter in future and have some natives, more ID's, etc

I am glad you mentioned Irish Draughts I was feeling very lonely as Archie will be the only RID there! So many people have misconceptions about the ID and am hoping that they are going to see that a draught can be versatile because of their brain and trainable temperament. They can also add the bone that in recent years got lighter in some horses.
It is going to be great as mare owners can meet the stallions in their stables, and as I have mentioned in another forum I for one are very happy to introduce Archie to people whether or not they are breeders or want an RID stallion in the hope they recognize what a great breed they are.
Looking forward to meeting some of you and your boys

Archie may be the only RID there but there will still be ID blood as Primitive Star is 1/2 ID and Hamilton Tropics has plenty of ID blood in there too.

I think it is great that mare owners will be able to come and meet the stallions in the stable. By getting up close and personal it gives you so much more of an insight into the stallion as well as being able to really assess their conformation.

And it is wonderful to see natives being encouraged to come and show. How many successful horse boasts a little Irish Draught or (in the case of so many German ponies) Welsh blood? These blood lines need to be treasured and appreciated for the qualities they can add to the modern day competition horse.

I can't wait to meet him and I couldn't agree more with your last sentence.

I agree Eventrider23, but I do think there are people out there that know the Sport horses have some ID blood but not that a pure bred has been introduced into that line. I have taken a look at the Pictures of the stallions attending and cannot wait to see them, there really is something for every one all types, sizes and disciplines. See you there x

I am Looking forward to meeting your boy as well cruiseline, I love the pictures you have posted of him running free,Weeeeeeee........ every time I have tried to capture any of Archie he just stops running around and walks up to me, I have plenty of his left nostril!!
