Hi.. i am looking to breed from my 15.2hh RID mare. I have always put her to full RID stallions but have decided I would like to try putting some TB into her stock. I don't wish to go down the WB or any other route just out of personal preference. She breeds very quiet stock and is incredibly amenable herself with fantastic attitude to work. She has quite a small head for a draught and fairly square shoulders which seem to come through on her youngsters a lot so I need something to soften them up a little. I am looking for something that will compete county level WH

What about Hever Golf Ranger? He himself was only lightly shown but I know him well and he is awesome! Conformationally he is almost perfect and his temperament is second to none! I know his story intimately and it is lovely.....summery is that after his successful racing career he was turned out in a field and forgotten about for YEARS....when his current owner found him he had him rebacked and literally within weeks he won at Ardingly in the TB and Anglo Riding Horse/Hack class and was overall champion of the show. His stock are out and about winning now in the show ring very well. He is not advertised at all publically as he is done through word of mouth but he is truly exquisite!

Just had a look at him and he is beautiful but unfortunatley he is a little bit too small, if i am looking at the right stallion (15.1hh bay)

My little girl is only 15.2 herself.
Thanks for the info though, all the ones that I see and really like seem to be quite small... this is proving to be tougher than I thought!

Merit TB 16.2 bay, is very good on ID mares but he is now in Wales, better for me but difficult for others I guess.

We went to Groomsbridge Stud to look at a different stallion, and I am sending my mare there soon. It was a lovely place, very nice owner and I saw their 2 stallions too. They were both beautiful.

Athens Abercadabra he is very layed back stands at Bracken Spa stud in Lincolnshire. I went to there open day and was very impressed with all there stallions but I am using there cremello on my mare this year.

Hi Silverbreeze. I've recently had the same dilema. I went down to Cornwall to see Shining Spirit. He is 16.3hh and full TB. His temperament is super and he does seem to be getting good competition stock from very few offspring. I am seriously considering using him on my mare this year. I am not promoting him, but just sharing my experience

I also really like Royal Storm who is at Vauterhill with Graham Heal. He is a lovely stamp of a horse, but it is his first season as a stallion so he is an unknown in what he will throw. He has Bold Lad in his pedigree though and he looks not disimilar, so he may well stamp his stock in the same way. His pedigree is on http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/royal+storm8

Hi Silverbreeze

I work for [and I'm not just recommending him because I work for his owner] the owner of Bollin William. He is 16/16.1hh full TB. He is usually used for pointers as he was good pointer himself, but his owner has some nice part bred cleveland bays from him and they are lovely big stock with lovely movement and action and super jumpers too. His stock tend to be about 16.3hh and it looks like your mare would produce some decent bone with it.

Not a great picture because he didn't feel like it that day but you can see his body shape although he is a bit ribby.

I'm not sure where you are but he is based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. He is very fertile; most of the mares he covers only need once. PM me for any extra info =]

WOW - she's nice. I CRY to think of her not going to an RID, TBH, but if you're breeding to keep and WANT sport horse, then I'd second Groomsbridge - High Tension! I have never seen a quality, well bred TB with a better a*se!! (And his front end is pretty perfect too!)

I'd be cautious about a TALL rangy TB with a small RID mare as you could end up with a lot of open air below. High Tension would give a little more height and 'quality' without sacrificing substance (and temperament!!)

I'm off to Groomsbridge with my ID x tb mare, I thought the stallions were great but even better was the youngstock have never seen such nice young colts, they were as well behaved as an old gelding!
(I'm using May I)

I know... so is my mum and me!!! we keep be drawn back to the RID's... not ruled out completely yet, we just need to find a lighter stamp RID. We have always bred pure off her and I love them dearly. I just lost her beuatiful RID 4 year old gelding out of Rebelara in a hunting accident (broke his neck) and I miss him every single day.... He was an absolute angel but she breeds such quiet stock and I really don't want to resort back to hunting to bring them out of themselves as I couldn't bear to go through what I am at the minute!! I am looking at the IDxTB stallions but they are all quite small but I am starting to think that maybe I should stop being so hung up on the height as, just beacuse the stallion is tall it doesn't mean the offspring will be. Rebelara's son was 16.1hh which, when built like he was ( I called him my little body builder) was ample... so what if the judges think they're too small!!!

Thank you everyone for your invaluable thoughts... I will have a look through all of the ones mentioned. I am in Cheshire btw; suppose I should've put that on the initial comments. I looked at Primitive Star yesterday and fell madly in love with him but I think he is too big for my little girl as he is MASSIVE... I only wish I still had my TB brood mare as she would be there like a shot. He has a fantastic way about him and the stud is very impressive and really well run
