Stallion suggestions please (event)

If, and it is just an if I ever breed from Floss I have no idea what stallion I would use.

Floss is by Fleetwater Opposition x a TB mare Corn Dolly (Sykes) she has Charlottesville on her dam line who I believe is the sire of Saunter who sired Winsome Andante.

So if you had a mare of this breeding what would you put her too.

She is 12 yr old 15.2 brown/bay, can be a bit quirky but I believe this to be due to past bad handling. She was sweet up until 6 years (according to the person who backed her and evented her) and is as good as gold with people she knows and trusts now.

She is a compact mare with a huge jump and ears to match. She has a slightly straight shoulder and is a bit 'conservative' with her paces. She can sometimes lose the plot and throw a little strop, nothing nasty though.

FO breeding is quite 'fashionable' atm, he is just edging in as the leading event sire due to Opposition Buzz success.

I would want to increase the size slightly and make the offspring a little more level headed!

I would look at a jumbo off shoot, Brief Encounter throws big movers with good temperaments from what I have heard... or Wish Up on a Star would be a fab one for temperament and trainability...
 
What about Take it To the Limit? He's 16.1, great temperment. Been highly placed in almost every 3 star he has done, yet he is still only 10 years old. I think because he is barely advertised, you dont hear about him much, but if he was well marketed, he'd be as popular as horses like Mill Law/Future Illusion/all the Jumbo sons etc etc- he's certainly achieved a lot more then they have!
He's only got a few stock on the ground due to his competition commitments, his oldest stock are 4 year olds and a handfull of them have already qualified for the B.E 4 year old champs. The 3 year olds/yearlings have done well at futurities.
Apparently his offspring inherit his good temperment and jump and are very straightforward. Physically they tend to look more like their mothers.
 
I also like Take It 2 The Limit but for me, he's a little on the chunky side for what I'd ideally breed. He is very level headed though and a consistant performer.

I'm thinking of putting my Opposition mare to Brief Encounter when the time comes, he has a great front and a lovely laid back approach. He wouldnt probably be a superstar and I doubt he's a 4* horse but he has a nice jump and moves really well.

Depends what you want to breed really.
 
if she was mine i would be looking at going back to a full tb to get a 3/4 bred.

I would go for something like Stravinsky for the movement and size you want.
 
You've probably thought about "the usual suspects" but how about these lesser known stallions who may turn out to be very good indeed?

Coxton Sand Piper. Superb TB breeding on both sides of his pedigree and already sire of an advanced eventer

Parkmore Master. The breeding of this stallion is simply superb. By the brilliant Master Imp out of a Clover Hill/ Sky Boy mare. Wow. If he is as good as his bloodlines he is going to be very, very special.

Miley. He's an old boy now but has a superb progeny record siring GP dressage horses, advanced eventers and national show champions. He may be a bit chunky for what you want but IMHO he's worth a look.

Next time I visit my family in Cornwall, I intend to go and see Parkmore Master, as he might suit B.

I think Miley is a fabulous stallion and hugely under rated!

I've only seen BE stock in pics, but they all seem lovely.

You could consider One More Tiger. He's an adorable chap, with plenty of size and scope.

Banaman's Spider would be a good physical match IMO too.

I adore Persiflage!

What about Carousel? He's Holstein, yet is the sire of Carousel Quest and Quixotic.
 
I am not a welton horse fan. Just never have been. What about Chilli Morning? I think he would be a nice match. He has a pretty great record. What about Classic Primative and add a bit of Primative Rising into the mix?

I also like Landtanzers breeding as some TB on both sides in his pedigree along with Cor de La Breyer.

Final suggestion would be Nibley Goldspirit - he has been dressage produced but is pure TB and I think would be worth a look. He has Master Spiritus in the damline

Fleetwater Oppositions are great, but they do not suffer fools gladly. You want to put her to something with an exceptional temperament and with very good limbs and feet, as FOs will go pigeon toed given half the chance. FO has always been 'fashionable' mostly because he does produce the goods an awful lot of the time!

Up With The Lark has already been mentioned, he would give you the blood you need. I also speak from personal experience when I say his temperament is absolutely fantastic.

My Fleetwater Opposition x TB mare has had 2 foals by Groomsbridge May I, both absolutely stunning, we sold last years and are retaining this years. She is now in foal to Kings Composer.

don't know why i didn't say him before but Primitive Proposal would also add height and movement by the bucket load!

his first crop is now out eventing and starting to turn in the results and my own 4yro is absolutely cracking- i don't look at my horses through rose tinted glasses but he really is a super, super horse.

I also have a One More Tiger horse and the only thing i would say is that i am not sure he would add height- mine is only 16hh and i haven't seen any of his progeny over 16.1hh before.
 
I was going to suggest Kings Composer, who whilst not anywhere as blocky as his photo's suggest, I'm not sure he'd suit this mare. Though, as I'm sure everyone knows, I'm delighted with my 4yo by King, he can be quite challenging and cheeky, though is also very laid back and accepting.

We saw Classic Primitive at the Arena UK Futurity in 2007 - WOW!! He was fabulous! We totally fell for him. I can't find a 2010 stud fee for him, but either last year, or the year before I think he was £650, which IMHO is steep for an unproven horse. Though I find him a very exciting horse to follow!

How about Trifolio? I worked with him for a short time and whilst he himself was (still is?) a bit tricky, his stock are lovely!

Now I do know a couple of OMT produce that have made over 16.1 as 3 year olds; both fillies, both full TBs; the one I sold to the people who own Caroline Powell's ride at WEG was almost 16.3 the last time I heard and her dam was just 16 hands. My filly by him is only about 15.2 (2) but she is a first foal and dam is just 16 hands herself, still time for a bit more yet I hope.
 
In a different direction - Don Aqui who stands in Scotland but available with chilled semen. He has proven eventing stock in Germany as well as having been successful himself. Saw him at Blair Castle event stallion parade - very impressive.

Thank you for your kind comments re Classic Primitive who stands at Gemini Stud you obviously took a bit of shine to him... thank you. Time has ticked on since Arena UK, and he has some progeny now who have inherited so many of his qualities - do have a look at
