I've been watching a stallion at our yard (to be honest he is the only one I've seen for any period of time). Anyhow he seems nice enough however he always craps in the same place despite having over 11/2 acres to himself....is this pattern of behaviour common in stallions? If so I want one as poo picking shall become a doddle

Yes, think stallions do tend to do this - having poo picked a few myself - they are great !!!

Must be something to do with marking territory I would guess, some of them always do it near their gateway

I think it is, yes. The one at our yard does this. He always poos in the same place in his stable as well, which makes him the loveliest boy to muck out ! It would be nice if he could give some tips to the FILTHY gelding, who appears to like hoof-painting with his poo overnight....

I used to look after 4 arab stallions and they all did it in the same spot. Its a marking of territory and the bigger the pile, presumably the more healthy and well established the stallion.

HI, Yes they do tend to,
We have many who you can muck out their stables in 2mins flat, they poo in one place and 'wee' in another.

Although there are exceptions to the rules,

It's a serious business as a stallion where you do your business and also checking out exactly who has done their's in your territory!

The stallion at my yard has a stable and an outside yard, and he never poo's in his stable and only poos in one corner of his yard. he is lovely to muck out.

Having said that my horse doesn't poo in his bed he poos on the concrete section of his stable take me all of 5 mins to muck him out

We had a part clydie gelding who did the same. No idea why, no way he was cut late, he had an appalling outline, and well I hope to god he was never bred becuase although he was officially the sweetest horse in the world he was also the uglyiest! They were also the biggest piles in the world too

A Mare I ride does this and is very neat and tidy .... out of interest she is never 'mareish' ... I also knew a gelding, who had a screw loose, that did this .... but it is really a Stallion's behaviour, where they are marking their territory, so to speak

Yes I think they all do it.
Mine will canter across his field to do a poo in his spot.
If I leave the wheelbarrow on his spot, he poos straight in it. LOL

Glances out of the window at the scattered piles in Z's field. I WISH SOMEONE WOULD TELL HIM THIS
