Stamping back legs

Hi

Just got back from holiday this afternoon and went to see horsies when I got back. Apparently my boy has been stamping his back legs in the stable quite a bit during the past few days.

Had a look around and can't see anything that could be causing it and we don't have flies/midges atm. I put some fly repellent on but he was still doing it when I left.

Two questions, 1) is anyone else having this problem. 2) Could it be itchy boy bits?

I was kinda hoping someone would come up with some other reason.
 
Feather mites. Frontline rubbed well in or shave off all feathers or 2 x dectomax (sp?) injections 10 days apart. There's a product called Footstamp designed for heavy horses but when I read all the "be careful not to"s I decided against it for my feathery gipsy cob mare.
 
Sounds like mites pescie little buggers , feathers are their home , need to seek advice on killing them off, not sure whats on the market ask for solutions at the tack shops before you call the vet but you may have to get a wash from the vet check it out x
 
I didn't think it was mites and couldn't see and signs of them last night. He is a WB. Our welshie has mites atm and will need the second dectomax jab next week. She brought them with her when she came to us as she is fairly new.

How far can these little buggers travel? They are kept in separate paddocks (next to each other) and obviously stabled apart.

I'm off down there now so I'll do a thorough inspection of the boy bits and the legs.

mites burrow under the skin.you will not see anything.

i was recomended frontline by vet.it is not licened for horses but it works.you need to buy the pump spray one.i used it 2 weeks apart and have had no problem since.
(that was years ago!)
you can use it without clipping all the feathers off as long as you use gloves and work it in well.
 
I already have the PS info from Teresa, she sent me it when our pony got mites. She certainly knows her stuff doesn't she.

After the morning I had cleaning boy bits, I think it has been that. I'll spare you the details
