oldie has been doing this in field periodically the last 2 days...i have had a close look and can't see anything and she's in no discomfort at all. I am thinking possible mites? Do you think a squirt of frontline tommorrow??

Feather mites, defo! Squirt of Frontline is fine but you have to rub it right in, down to the skin and then repeat it in 10 - 14 days. The eggs aren't affected by products that kill the adults and they cheerfully hatch in 10 - 14 days. If you don't re-do the feathers, your horse will be infested all over again. My horse has Dectomax injections a couple of times a year. This brings him instant relief but, as with Frontline, the vets have to come out a second time after 10 - 14 days! Mites can drop off and live in bedding so your horse may always be prone to the nasty little bleeders!
