My horse has an undiagnosed lameness in his front right foot and has to go for an MRI. We have two options - Liphook or Halifax. Distance wise, Halifax is by far the preffered option for us. However our vet has no experience of the Halifax facility and therefore, understandably, is recommending Liphook. Has anyone had any experience of standing MRI at the Halifax facility? I want to do what's best for my lad which means getting the best scans and interpretation of the data but also not subjecting him to a very long journey if its not necessary!

My horse went to Liphook last year for a standing MRI scan. The vets and nurses were fantastic, he was there for three days, was looked after so well, and the staff kept me well informed and were very supportive when they had to give me the results which were even worse than expected.
I would not hesitate to take a horse there again, they were brilliant.
Good luck, hope it all works out for you.

Surely there is someone in between!!! There must be a good horse vets at Newmarket for instance!!!! Which is nearer than Liphook. Liphook is MILES from Yorkshire!!! Its WAY down South!!! Its South of Oxford for goodness sake!!! Even South of Basingstoke!!
I cant believe that Newmarket doesnt have one!

Sorry but dont think your vet has done his homework but might be wrong!!!

We're in Cheshire so Yorkshire is closer for us!!!!! There are another 8 machines in the country but most are down south so with no knowledge of any of them and Liphook having such a good reputation then it's Liphook or Halifax. Anyway, the point was has anybody used the Halifax machine?

I haven't read all the replies so apologies if it's been covered. Hirds are the vets in Halifax and they are my vets. I've been at their place - Ludo had an Op there last year - at the time when they first building the MRI. Although I haevn't used the MRI I can say that they are brilliant vets although not the most luxurious of places, its very well run, extremely clean, the people are brilliant and it's all very efficient. If you get the Head Vet (Peter Schofield) you won't go far wrong, he's great and explains what's going on really well, having said that one or two of the other vets I've had contact with there are great too! It's not the easiest place in the world to find, let me know if you need directions - the map on the website just confused me!!
