My horse is very difficult in all ways but is often reluctant to go forward, my saddler says he is long withered and a new saddle might benefit him. What does everyone think, anyone else had a long withered horse, or is this another waste of money. Should also point out he has had many saddle checks as he has grown but none have pointed out a long wither problem. This is a new saddler as we have moved.

If your saddle doesn't fit the horse, then yes that could very well be a reason for it not wanting to go forward.

I second what AmyMay said. If the saddle doesn't fit it can restrict their movement or even be uncomfortable for them to go forwards properly. Try a few better fitting saddles and see if a new, better fitting saddle would help the problem? Its amazing the change a good saddle makes!

Well its quite possible but get a second opinion - funnily enough most saddlers think everyone would benefit from a new saddle!

Mine too! He refused to sell me a new dressage saddle this week, saying that the old WH one he'd restuffed for me would be just as good for my position.

OP - saddles can make an incredible difference to how forward a horse goes. I tried one on my girl, and she could barely move out of the stable with it on. I popped a different one on and she was happy to go for a long hack. If I were you I'd see if you can borrow one, or take a few to trial.
