Stangles, West Sussex

Just to let everyone in the Sussex/Hampshire areas know that I learnt from my neighbour yesterday that there has been an outbreak of strangles at a yard in West Sussex - it may be a hunting yard, as the phone call that she received was from a hunting contact. They think it was brought in by a horse from a dealers yard in Ireland.

If I get any further info I'll pass it on

as long as you keep strict hygiene procedures it doesn't matter where in the county it is. if your horse gets it, it gets it. don't touch other peoples horses and don't allow others to touch your horses.

unfortunately, not all dealers/yards are so scrupulous about owning up to having horses with strangles. Therefore I would prefer to know and give said yard a wide berth!
