staples

was just wandering how long staples are supposed to stay in for?
i ask this because a pony at my yard had a small operation to remove a broken tooth over a week ago and the staples still havent been taken out. also the wound looks like it is infected and has scabbed over the staples. horse has nothing to do with me but the person looking after it doesnt seem to be looking after it properly.

there usually in until the wound has healed and that depends on how big it is etc. Mouth's usually heal very quickly so i though they should have been removed by now?

thats what i thought as there were only 3 or 4 and the wound was quite small. vet will have a hard job as the wound has pussy scabs all over it.

7-10 days, although I have known them to be in longer.
Any more than that and they start to fall out of their own accord anyway.
Do you think the 'scab' is just caked on pus? If so, that would be holding them in. Dabbing vaseline on should help clean it up.
I wouldnt be too worried, the pus is normal and means the wound is flushing itself. If it is swelled or puffy then it needs reassessing by a vet.
