If your horse is being a tw@t and getting ridiculously excited (in this instance over a few poles on the ground and the prospect of cantering over them) and one of the many evasions he tries is sticking his head right in the air to evade the bit and chaaaaaarge.... what is the best way to deal with the stargazing?
As it is usually accompanied by jogging and a willingness to chaaaaaaaarge if he does manage to drop the contact, I tend to just keep the contact with his mouth, (which I am sure isn't hurting him BTW) and he settles sooner or later, but is owner commented to me today about my hands being very high when he was doing that.
I *think* I've picked that up from a Carl Hester demo as well as various lessons/experience in that CH was saying something along the lines of how many people make the mistake of thinking low hands brings a horse's head down, but that it actually creates a pull. Owner thinks the opposite is true because of something we heard our instructor say about riding another horse.
Just curious to hear other people's opinions how they would handle this occasional stargazing??
