My lorry hadn't been started or moved for the past three weeks with one thing and another and today I thought I'd really better try and see what happened. My old lorry required a jumpstart from a car if the weather dropped below 5 degrees and although I've had Betsey nearly a year now and she saw me through the cold snap last March I was still nervous about whether she'd go or not. First turn of the key - ok I had to hold it for a little longer than normal but still

. I was ecstatic!

I let her warm up on the yard and then rolled her back to check the brakes - all fine, so I reversed out into the yard and then slithered my way up the drive to take her out to do the shopping at Tesco, just to give her a decent run. No problem at all. (apart from remembering that I'd dumped the spare stinky rugs in the lobby only when I went to put the shopping in there

Got her home fine, drove up the drive no problems, went to turn round in the yard . . . . cue mad wheelspinning

My daughter and I battled with mats etc for 40 minutes, both of us full of cold, and eventually we gave up to do the horses. My husband is now grumpy because he can't get into his garage, I can't get the Landy out, or my car, or my daughter's car.

Tomorrow morning we will be out there with salt and sand, unless it magically thaws overnight.
