Hello,
Im new to the forum and relatively new to riding however, am very interested in starting to learn to ride, and was wondering if anyone had any helpfull tips or anything usefull that would help me learn. I can do rising trot just about, so im not a total novice, but haven't ever really gone past the odd lesson here and there.
Cheers all,
Rob

Not trying to be facetious, honestly, but...have some more lessons? Do you have any friends with horses? Spend as much time around them as possible, read as many books as possible. Basically, get as much book knowledge as you can, and then put it into practice with as much "bum in saddle" time as you can. If you wanted to get a lot better, faster, oyu could try going on an instructional riding holiday.

best of luck !

No worries, no offence taken. I have planned lessons for most weeks now for the forseeable future, however lessons don't teach me the ins and outs of horse care etc. Could you recommend any books which would give a general overview of horses, looking after them etc?
Cheers,

You can't beat the pony club manual whatever age you are.
Find an RDA centre near you and go and give them some help you will learn loads and enjoy helping someone.
Where do you live?

I agreew ith The_Carthorse, the PC Manual is excellent. I also have the BHS Book of Horse and Pony Care, which is really useful, and the two BHS Manuals of Stable Management and Equitation, which between them cover just about everything !

Just in case it appears that i am a bit brainwashed, i should add that I don't do everything the BHS way ! I never knew much about stable management until I took on my share horse, and I have learned more in a few months of helping care for her than in 30 years of reading...but my hands-on time with my mare has helped to clarify all the things I have read about.

So my best bet would be to ask at local stables if I can do any weekend work or something to get a bit of experience? Just kinda worried that i'll do everything wrong

Everyone has to start somewhere! People are always needing help and most will be more than willing to explain as its a subject we all love!!!

Good luck

Agree with hellspells! We all started somewhere.

Horse husbandry comes to you the more that you are dealing with horses and there is always someone looking for help.
