I have bought the sugar beet pulp, the linseed and ordered the minerals the barefoot diet starts this weekend! I have also bought some spearmint leaves hoping they will help with palatability. I am anticipating a fusspot reaction to new foods, best tips please? Have been told the minerals need to be increased bit by bit until they are accepted. Exciting times. My horse is waiting to go to Rockley and so is still shod, in eggbars! He is a really good doer and is looking very 'well'! Farrier coming to shoe him in two weeks maybe for the last time???

Welcome to the other side:) Very exciting! Esp exciting about Rockley! I found it took a while for my girl to get used to the feed bowl that was laden with cardboard rather than sweets! She is ver very fussy though! I tried the mint but what I eventually found was that she preferred it if I sprinkled it on top of the food rather than mixing it all in. I also found when I was totally desparate that a bit of grated apple mixed in encouraged her as well. Fenugreek is also good.

Just to clarify you bought unmollassed beet pulp an not mollassed? Don't mean to be patronising.

Even my fussy horse loves anything with linseed added. If all else fails try curry powder - lots of horses love it?!

I know - it's weird.

I used VermX a few years ago and wondered at how much it smelt liked curry powder.

Both my horses went mad for it so I started experimenting with curry powder.

They loved it too - especially my fussy one :p

I have a very fussy madam on a barefoot diet and use fenugreek powder to encourage her to eat. It was suggested by NMT who uses it for Fig. It is very handy for disguising the taste of stuff in their feed.

It is also an ingredient in lots of mixed curry powder :)

Oberon yes I did! Lovely yummy fudge! Thank-you P.E. Even better than that, he has eaten half a scoop tonight! Good boy! I was saying today after everything I hve been thrugh with this horse he will be my last, maybe things are looking up! Had a gentle stroll on him today, he is still sound and seemed happy. Makes me happy too! Roll on Rockley!
