I have been training my 2yo to go on and off the horse trailer i have been keeping the partition out to give him more room, I havent put ramps up yet or anything but today i decided i would put the partition in and kept it tied open but.. he competely freeked when it touched his side, so took it out again and he went on ok after a bit of coaxing. I think he might of got bashed when he was transported up to me on a lorry and he now freeks when things touch his side like that. I am considering buying a full width breast bar for my ifor williams trailer.. does anyone use these? and how secure is it when travelling a horse? I just dont want to ruin his confidence in the trailer. also when would you say it was time to put ramps and travel him a little way to see how he is? he is quite relaxed standing in the trailer with the ramp at the back down

Get him used to stuff touching his sides when he isn't in a trailer then I would just take him in with the partition daily for a carrot or feed. I prefer to do it with an older good traveller in with them when I first close the ramp, but only close the ramp when they are chilled enough to just stand & munch hay. If they aren't bothered about being shut in a few times I would just take them round the block with a steady companion first few times.

He is pretty settled while in there having a feed it was just when he felt it there he started jumping about and i think he felt he was trapped.. I had to push his out backwards because he kept bashing against it. it was quite scary because he is 16hh! I dont want to end up with a accident where he gets his foot caught on the wrong side of it or something.. (sometimes im more scared, the amount of silly things that can happen with a horse in 1 second is unreal!) Do you think a full width breast bar and him tied up would be better? I do have a older horse that travels well but i dont want to have him in there then the youngster totally freaking out on me:confused:
