We have made some lovely hay (my OH is a very good hay maker, never got a bale wet - yet)
A few stacks of bales were left in the field as the trailers were full and some barstewards have stolen them.

Never known this before - what is the country coming to?

Someone tried to do that in our hay fields last night.

I think they must've got disturbed though as all the twine was snapped and half of it was one side of the fence, and another lot was the other side.

Thieving bar stewards!!

Edited to add : Every year our farm make it a ritual when the hay is all cut etc to make a huge teddy bear out of the round bales and square bales etc. It looks FAB!

Twice it got pulled down and then it was gone! Someone clearly was short of hay... :( :(

These were small bales, and we have a good idea who may have taken them. As you say, locals with lots of black and white ponies to feed, and a handy truck to put them in.

Generally the big bales should be OK as they would need a loader to move them, but I think we will be quicker to get them in than normal.

They suck.. it's one of the reasons we've switched to big bales... much more difficult to nick... but no where near as nice to use as the little ones... I miss them:(

Vx

Is nothing safe these days?:( I guess with these people nearby, the answer is no.

Barstweards! Next time. make a stack of them, then leave like 3 or 4 at the bottom and tie them to the ones at the top so that when they are lifted and moved they top ones fall down on them! Its its the small ones it wont hurt to much

I think it would be better with big bales - then it would blinkin hurt.

Gotta be someone nearby.

Wonder if you could "paint" them with anything that wouldn't harm the horses on consumption, so if they did get nicked again, you could go round the locals and say you've had some stuff nicked. At least reporting it to the bobbies and doing their job for them makes it easier when they're just looking for bright blue hay bales or something!!!
