Despite doing a short hack today and getting washed off, horse was very hot with steam rising off him for good half hour. And it was a lot - almost as if he had done very intense work. He is fit but this was unusual as hack was relatively easy. His 'sweating' response seemed disapportinate. He has moved yards - could it be a sign of stress or distress? Or something else? Thanks for any thoughts.

Could be stress but taking into consideration the time of year my boy gets real sweaty doing not alot as his coat changes, he's a hairy beast and sweats up extremely easy at this time of year, and he is not sweaty horse generally.

Can think of much else, only giving you my personal experience, I'm sure others will be of more use!

How is he now Bluemoon? If he is not back to normal I would call the vet. If he did not work hard then sweating can be from stress/excitement but also from tying up, or colic.
