I was under the impression the grant was to HELP people who didnt have much money in their training.....Both the winner of the grant and the girl who got the 'reserve' money are VERY well off and already train with the best.

How is this right?

People (like me) who struggle to pay for their training, and cant afford to be based at the best yards in the country dont even get a look in, it really is totally unfair, and not what i thought this grant was meant to be about

You've got more than me!!!!!!

I'd give anything just to have enough money to keep the horse I've got!!! I'm on the verge of losing him at any point and after two years of hard slog to get him to the stage that he's at now. AND We've never competed because we can't afford to go anywhere or do anything! But we still want to perform to the best of our ability and progress and we could be winning alsorts if we were able to get out and about. I've hacked to a show last year and one this year and came away with rosettes on both occasions. Imagine what I could do with him if I could afford more than one lesson in a blue moon!!!

OK, life isn't fair but you've got more than most and less than others. Thats the way I look at it. We're all in the same boat no matter what walk of life you're from.

Yes that's true, there's always someone with more than you and always someone with less I guess. I could never even dream of affording my own horse but luckily I have 3 great horses to school and compete and I'm very happy with that

just to add - this post isnt about me!!!!!!!

Im simply saying that its not fair that the money always goes to people who already have it, what about the other people who work really hard and dont have the money in the first place is what im saying!

I'm agreeing with you.

My horse isn't even owned by me!!!!! I do all this work for absolutely nothing, no recognision, no help, no thanks, no money, not even a proper chance to compete. So yes I wish that there were grants out there for people like me too!

What does the application process consist of? Because it would be very difficult to ascertain whether candidates were really undeserving financially... It’s also very easy to make assumptions - I'm sure if I saw you at a comp I'd be convinced you were loaded!!!

I do know what you mean though and when its sponsored by a company its also very important for them to be assured of good results...

I'm pleased Carmen Gammie was awarded something - she had a piece in the WPCS Journal and it was lovely to read!

My friend knows one of the girls who got the grant, and she IS loaded. The other girl has 3 horses all with Carl Hester, that to me also screams loaded! I couldnt even afford a lesson with Carl Hester!!!!

All you had to do to apply was write about yourself and your horses and what your aims/ambtions where and what you had achieved so far.

money goes to money. it's just the way of the world. Its exactly the same in the field that I work in, academia, grants go to the people who are already established and don't really need them just because they know the right people. I work hard at joining in and getting to know the right people

I know the winner, and she is definately NOT loaded.
She has got where she is now through hard work, dedication and talent. She trained her own pony to the A squad by working at a yard in return for training and buys 2 and 3 year olds to break and train rather than ready made horses.
She is always ready to offer help and advice to me and to others, and like you is always up against the better off.
Her ambition is to make it to the top without having to spend mega bucks on the horse. She is a deserving winner.
