I'm doing my first proper hunter trials tomorrow and the 3rd fence is 3 steps going down.

I was going to trot down them, leaning back, but do I give Hattie her head or hold on to it? I was thinking give it so she can see where to put her feet but not too much so she falls over it? Any advice greatly recieved, I am a nervous wreak.

Dont throw the rein but just keep a light contact. You need to be there to support but not hinder! You'll be fine, just keep looking up an dkeep shoulders back!

Good luck!

worked for me and I'm now confident cantering down them and then back up

your steps look pretty much the same as those at Somerford farm ride so just pretend its a steep hill, lean back and leg on and enjoy (I also wedge feet in stirrups - have the flexi ones so feet won't get stuck if come off).
Remeber it doesn't matter what speed you are doing, walk them if you don't feel confident, you will feel great once done them
