I know loads of people on here have regular steriod injections for their horses, so this question is directed at you!! My horse had his first steriod injection in December and then had to have 4 weeks box rest. He was then brought back into work and has been fine, until this eve. He feels as he did before the last injection so will be getting vet out in next day or so. My question is how long do you box rest your neddies after the injection? I think I read on here that some only needed 48 hours? experiences please.

I've only ever box rested for 3 days after steroid injection (i'm assuming you mean into a joint?) What you have to remember is that steroid injections don't work for all horses. I have a 6yo WB with jeuvenile osteoarthritis in both hocks, the first injection worked for a month, tried injecting again and it didn't work at all, and was still lame.

ETA- After 3 days of box rest they get 1 week to 10 days field rest, before ridden work in walk commences

Bentley had a cortisone injection into his fetlock and was turned out after 12 hours in his stable. Unfortunately it only lasted 2 months but he is 99% sound on half a bute a day and perfectly capable of gentle hacking.

Mine had 3 days box rest and 3 days field rest then slowly back into work after the first one. After the second, just the 3 days box and field rest because he was already in full work and it was a top up.

How do you define regular steroid injections? You need to be careful about doing them too often because there is a risk of laminitis. My horse had them 12 months apart.
