Its looking like Katie might need a course of oral steroids as the inhalors are not working as much as we need. So im concerned about streroid induced laminitis, any one have any information on it?. I will speak to my vet again tomo as Katie is going for a video scope and lung wash.
Just wondered if anyone had any experience of this? Anything that can be done to prevent this or lower the risk? Thanks

Im' sorry to hear about your horse, I know what you are going through.

It would depend on which steriod your vet prescribes. My pony has summer RAO and the inhalers dont suit him. He has been on Prednisolone powder since May, this is the 3rd summer he has had them and has shown no sign of Laminitis. There are stronger steriods which carry a risk but my vet assures me there is virtually no risk with this.

I think you will be fine with feeding the steroids

Mine got steroid induced laminitis from a huge dose of injected long term dexamethasone

The problem with the long acting injected type is that you cannot get it out of their system, so you just have to watch as the lammi gets worse and hope for the best
