So my 19yo old steroid injections in her feet. The X-rays didn't show any bone issues and the initial reaction seems good, however I know that the injections can have limited time spans, so I am keen to do everything I can to keep the horse fit.

When the injections went in, very runny fluid came out, which the vet said indicated there had been some sort of infection. So, advice please on forward care. I am already thinking about keeping her weight down, bringing back into work very steadily and keeping protein to a minimum in her diet.

But how did the feet get 'infected' and what else should I consider doing to keep her healthy.

I'd be slightly worried about your vets comment re infection. It sounds like synovial fluid to me, which is where the injection was administered. It's normal to see some escape during the procedure.

If it was infection, the vet would have prescribed antibiotics surely?

You are right, the first injections usually give a good result, subsequent ones much less so. The underlying issue is usually poor foot conformation. This is where you need to focus your efforts to keep your horse sound for as long as possible.

Good luck.
