At my previous yard my horse was always on shavings and k always wanted a straw bed. Now I have moved I have a straw bed but found its very smelly mucking out before work! I find shavings slightly easier and they don't smell as much but I prefere the sight of a straw bed! With the straw it's cheap, lasts me a while and my horse likes it and does eat it am sure! Where as with shavings there more expensive by about £7 extra per month and I have to order shavings on a Monday only from my supplier or pick them up. Which sometimes I forget I can only order on a Monday and I don't have the time to pop up there when I have work etc.

Would you stick to straw.or go back to shavings? I would need matts with the shavings which is another expense.

I prefer straw too! No one at work has ever mentioned that I smell (!) but I do wear different clothes, tie my hair up and put a baseball cap on when I'm at the yard to make sure!

I prefer shavings as I think straw is smelly even though mine was mucked thoroughly every day I found it smelly and had to wear wellies all the time so I could wash the smell off...I can wear my leather boots to muck out shavings and there is no smell....
