Got to try my brand new stierna cloud rain parka today as really wanted something that was pretty much totally waterproof but also not too hot to walk driving obstacles in (my lemieux masie gets too warm), its supposed to be 20000mm waterproof more than any of my other coats. . .

This was me after 1.5h moderate rain today. . . .

I'm hoping its faulty and they'll take it back, as even the sale price was more than I've ever spent on a coat.

Its frustrating when you know I research everything a lot before buying it 🙄 Friend was in her 10yo one and was dry after more hours of rain. I was just excited to use it, thinking really pleased I'd bought it first thing this morning then soggy. . .

at least I'm not camping as close enough to come home for the night but that meant I didn't have masses by way of dry clothes with me.

I was genuinely so excited to stay dry, but also not be too hot when I saw the forecast was rain, I was like fab, really pleased I bought that a month ago now - thinking we might actually make it to end of driving season without a wet one to try it out. . . . I'm glad we did so it's still pretty new to be complaining about.

I have messaged GS (who it came from) and stierna.

Oh that's disappointing for such an expensive brand. If you had the rain we had first thing this morning (apocalyptic at points), they'll probably argue something about high intensity downpours. Though think 20000mm plus is meant for extreme weather isn't it?

Let us know how you get on!

nope it was a bit grim to be out in as persistent but not apocalyptic, we had some of that later, when I was handily in a marquee. . my sealzkinz baseball cap did ok in it. It was the colour they are selling off so I didn't spend full price but still £. I think my cheapy very old mountain warehouse waterproof trousers would have been a better option. I'd have also expected my 10k coat to work fine in what we had - that doesn't when it is apocalyptic hence the upgrade.

Oh dear must be an issue with that one because 2 of my friends have them and have never had a problem!

Finding a cost that is actually waterproof is a nightmare. I sent back at least 3 last winter as they all leaked like sieves despite good waterproof ratings and reviews. It was a big relief to finally find the elusive waterproof! Thought I was doing something wrong or cursed…. (I can’t have a jacket with padding even in winter which makes it v hard to find a decent jacket, ended up with Musto Fenland and a Reincoat lite)

When something like that happens it’s gutting .
I hope they deal with quickly and straight forward way.
It used to be that if bought a good coat they lasted really well now I find things very hitty missy and I have cheap coats that are better than expensive ones.
But leaking first where that as a not fit for purpose and money back situation.

Fingers crossed they replace for you ASAP.

My Stierna is 100% waterproof, I've worn it all day in torrential rain before and been home dry underneath.

They have got back to me while I've been out today getting wet intentionally going through water obstacles! and stierna have said they will sort it direct for me. Its good to hear from others most have been good and I was just unlucky!

Thank you for emailing us and goodness that’s not just a little bit wet !
I’ve reached out to stierna HQ in sweden so we can get this resolved asap for you
Issues with Stierna coats are so incredibly rare, so I’m so sorry that you’ve had this experience - especially as a first time Stierna owner
Usually our customers invest in their first coat and then, when they understand just how good they really are, they end up expanding their wardrobe of different styles and pieces over time to build quite a collection !

I’m not certain if I’ll have a reply from the office before Monday but will be back in touch with you as soon as I do and we’ll get you sorted out

The usual process is to go back through the supplying retailer but in this case and as you’ve reached out directly we will handle everything for you from here

I hope you have a lovely weekend and we’ll be back in contact asap

I did look at the reincoat lite but I think it wasn't as breathable which is fine for standing riding but cycling to/walking obstacles I get hot, even more so if hills are involved as I'm one of the only people not on an ebike 🤣. I looked at the uhips too but again their more waterproof options aren't great breathability.

I have to say I really like the brand. Yes, very expensive, but it also doesnt look like you are wearing a frumpy garbage bag as a coat. My long winter coat has gone through I think 4 winters now and the only thing ti break on it is the Velcro sleeve closure on one wrist. Considering how much I abuse my stuff....it is very impressive!!

A good update,

stierna UK have been really helpful, as expected did want it back for testing, it got back to them Friday, confirmed this morning it's not right and is now on its way back to sweden so they can have a look at it too but they are sending a replacement today :)

I am quite relieved it wasn't just me/wasn't a terrible jacket choice! Hopefully the new one will be fine.

Yes the obvious would have been a fault with the seam taping but I don't think it was that from the pattern of the wet. The back was better but it has a storm flap over the shoulders so 2 layers of fabric for that bit.
I do wonder if testing is leaving it under the shower for a good while 🤣

I saw something on TV, maybe the Factory or something like where they were testing waterproof coats and they really did give them some grief! I can't remeber the deails but i do remeber thinking if the coats tested could put up with that they must have been amazing 🤣
