Stiff hindlegs in mornings

I've noticed recently since the weather is colder that my horse seems a bit stiff in his hind legs in the mornings. He drags his toes on the concrete when he comes out of his stable to be turned out first thing which I've never noticed before. It's only initially and hes fine when he comes in after being out all day and moving about. Also whilst riding, I've heard a slight clicking sound coming from his hocks, only occasionally and not continuous. His paces haven't changed and he doesn't seem uncomfortable at all.

Do you think i should start feeding a joint supplement? If so what? I've heard good things about Cortaflex but would rather try something cheaper first as it's only mild, don't want to be wasting my money if it's not necessary. Cod liver oil, cider vinegar etc?? I was planning on putting him on Top Spec Balancer anyway, would that have any benefit as well?

Thanks

I used to get Cortarflex direct from them as we didnt have a distributor in our area at the time. It worked well on our 40 year old. Might be worth getting the vet to check him out if you're at all concerned.

Prequestrian (search ebay shops and send an email to them.... tell them fat necked welsh mum told you about them please)!! are getting some very soon hopefully...poss even cheaper!!, worth asking for a date..... if not search on ebay under cortaflex and you will get a choice of suppliers.... one does it for 524 days supply (i think) for £160, its in a big tub but if you decant it into smaller plastic boxes it will stay fresh!!

Good luck!!

How old is your horse? Mine has not had much stiffness until this year, and now its so bad he's on danilon. My vet said you get what you pay for, and that cortaflex doesn't have much of the good ingredients in it (he did say the HA one was better though). I use cider vinegar, you have to feed a lot if you follow their guidelines though. Best thing for stiffness is regular exercise, not being overweight,a nd not being stabled.
