hi had a friend up to ride my girl today and she agreed with me that my lass is stiff in the neck and particularly on the right rein. ive had all the checks done, back teeth saddle etc. shes spot on on the left rein and accepts the bit, tracks up well but its a total diff story on the right, she runs through the bit, and falls onto the forehand, i lunge her about twice a week and this is helping, but could do with some other ideas , any advice would be really really appreciated :)

Mine is very stiff on his left, his owner (an instructor) gets me to stretch his neck after warming up, just in stand getting him to bend to my toe (he is a giraffe necked 17"2 so however far is appropriate for your horse). I do it several times and hold for about 8 seconds (just like stretching human muscles).

Also when working on that rein we treat it a bit like beginning getting contact with a youngster, asking and relaxing etc so he doesn't set/run through it.

Also mine leans on his bad rein and I work on correcting this as well as correcting the contact.

not the most expert advice but it has helped us. :)

I have just had shiatzu (sp?) done on my mare who definately prefered one rein rather than the other.

Rode her today and different horse, we have bed and circle with no arguements. The lady must of released something Samba was stretching out like a dog that has just woken up, had a buck and then fell asleep for the rest of the session :D
