The vet came last night and xrayed my boys stifle that he is currently very lame on for fradtures/ arthritis before deciding if to take him to hospital as the other stifle is already medicated. The x-ray was totally clear. He's pretty sound on the high dose of Bute he's on and going to the vets today so they can look into it further. Prior to this happening his legs had started filling in the mornings then he would walk it off. He hasn't fallen that we know of. I know it could be anything just wondering if anyone had any suggestions. They won't work him up till Friday when the Bute is gone so long wait.

I had clear x-rays for a horse I was convinced had hock arthritis recently- the next place we went was ultra sounding suspensories- I don’t know whether this would be a logical train of thought for suspected stifle too?

Thank you. I was convinced it was going to be awful and wasn't going to send him for anymore as he's had so many issues but they were perfect last night. I only want field sound so I said we would try one more time. His behaviour under saddle has been horrendous but back clear, clear for ulcers it's been bizarre. I just hope this time they get a diagnosis. He came in sound the bed wasn't disrupted and then in the morning horribly lame and stifle swelling and filled fetlocks.

Cartilage damage doesn't show on x ray, so it may be that if his stifles are swelling but they x ray clear. I would expect your vets to want to do an arthroscopy to find out

That would make sense. Hes got there anyway. Will have to wait and see what happens next. He was really sound this morning coming out of the box but he has been on a lot of bute until last night.
