My loan horse is rising 7. When I took him on last year he was significatly bum high. I though that was just the way he was going to be (I also though he was a year older than he actually was) but wasn't too bothered as he didn't ride on the forehand.
However, looking at him recently, I think he's grown very slightly and isn't as bum high as he was-he's just about level.
What breed is he? Some take ages to finish growning - mines a welsh cob X (probably)
Your loan horse looks a bit like my youngster, who's 2 1/2. He is out of a section D mare, 14hh, by a 16.2 Irish Draft. His breeder didn't think he'd go much above 14.3, but his bottom is 15hh now! I do hope he levels out (I know, plenty of time) and doesn't grow much higher as I have very short legs!
and secondly I'd guess at at least 15.2, maybe getting on for 16hh. And heavy! Swap? My 2.5yr old coloured cob is meant to make only 15hh and is currently standing 14.1 ish so might not even make that
He may, he may not. Fraser is ten, so totally finished growing, but still slightly bum high. Many horses don't finish maturing at five though, so give it a year or two.
Its just so frustrating, he's about 2 inches higher behind (maybe just less) - he seems to keep growing but never actually leveling out! He is a decent m/w. Breeding unknown but genreral consenus ID/Connemara/TB!!!
Some horses never level out. IDs do take longer to mature though, one of mine (ID xTB) finally finished filling out at 8 years old. Remember that muscle only really starts to develop at 6 years, which may also make a difference to overall appearance.
Chancer my gypsy cob was 5 in July and went bum high again this year and is still levelling out.
Kallibear - Stinky was about 14.1 at 2 1/2 and is now just over 15 hands and still growing. We think he will be about 15.1 when finished. Gypsy cobs don't finish growing until about 8 so you may yet find your one makes 15 hands.
