Flash hasn't been right for 3 weeks now, he's lame in his right foreleg, since he put it through a fence and pulled back and cut it. Initially I thought he was just a bit sore so gave him time off. The vet came out last week and had a good look at him, said there was nothing really wrong with him, he'd just knocked himself and was being a complete baby over nothing, and to give him some bute and work him as normal.

However, even with bute he's still not any better, and I do worry that working him might make a problem worse, even tho I've been told there isn't one. He's had his back checked, saddle checked and teeth done a few months ago, but I am getting all out again just in case. It's really worrying me, neither gentle work or complete rest made any difference.

His feet our long and he really needs shoeing, but I can't get a farrier out, as usual! Honest to god I've tried over 20 farriers since our last messed us about and wouldn't come out for 3 months, nobody would take us on, then when someone did he hasn't been very reliable

Could his long feet be contributing to this lameness?

Hey hon, sorry didnt answer Pm, only have time to grab quick moments at the mo!! Sorry to hear he is still lame, it could be down to a sprain or just bruising, although after that amount of time I would expect that to subside....long feet can be a factor most definitely depending on how long they are and whether they go "flat" or long in the toe. I would get a frrier out asap, and see what they find. Is he sound when trotting up? Any swelling heat etc?

maybe his feet are the cause of much of the problems? id get his feet looked at asap then reassess the situation and if necessary get the vet back out then.

Can you get another farrier to look at him?

there is no swelling or heat, never has been even the day it happened.

He tends to get a bit long in the toe, and his feet have started going over the shoes, so I have no guilt in repeatedly trying to phone farriers!! Almost tempted to take his shoes off after all the trouble we've had, he only has fronts on anyway and we rarely go on roads!

He looks sound when he's showing off in the field, but I can't trot him up and watch him as he's quite a handful, there's nobody else there to help.
