I went back to the caravan at 10.30pm last night... I had forgotten to put her CCTV camera in her stable when I left (it needs recharging you see) so had to go and see her with my little camping lantern - see, I am getting into the caravaning way of life now

When I got to her stable she was quite restless and her bed has been completely trashed. She also had bedding all over her body (I had brushed her before I left) and her udders were HUGE and parts of them shiny. Can you imagine how excited I felt?!

Put the camera and lantern up in her stable and then went to watch some TV and drink hot chocolate in the caravan with my friend Sue who had come to stay with me to keep me company.

I checked on her every hour all night, and all she did was eat and sleep

This morning her udders are not sticky like they were yesterday, but they are still massive and have a lot of swelling in front of them as well now. Her muscles in her bottom have really relaxed but still no waxing up or running of milk

Here at the photos I have taken of her this morning and the comparison with the other day:

Her tum looks about ready to burst in the second to last body pic... not long now... I hope after all your effort she doesn't sneak it out when your not looking!

she prob will!!! fingers crossed she waits for you though!!

Tina didn't run milk or wax up and her boobies were tiny, we actually fed Fin some milk pellets in the end as she didn't produce much milk at all.... from the looks of she has plenty of milk ready though!!!

Plenty coffee today for you!!! Wishing you lots of luck....

or she could be having it right now.LOL!!

Thanks everyone... you see I am starting to wonder whether it is ever going to happen to be honest

I don't think it will be tonight, and I am now thinking it might not be until after the weekend the way she is going...

Is her vulva elongated and engorged looking? She does have a big bag, but she still has 2 halves to it - but on a scale of 1-4, I'd grade her bag a 2.5 atm and most non-maidens foal on a 3.25+ bag, that has lost the 2 halves look. I'm not saying that she couldn't foal on that bag......... It is highly likely that she will wax up before foaling too - but then you do know that. The initial wax is usually clear, progressing to milky wax anything between 6 and 48hrs after the clear wax appears - she may of course just get milky wax immediately, IF she waxes up - don't you just LOVE the predictability of foaling mares?!. Remember if you think that she is dripping waxy milk, do your best to collect about 200/300mls and freeze it for the foal! You don't want to loose that colostrum - she only has about a pint of it! And DO NOT defrost it in the microwave, as the microwaves kill the anitbodies in the colostrum - hot tap water is sufficient, but you MUST get the foal to suckle this from the bottle BEFORE it gets on the bag, as once they have been on the bag, they won't accept a rubber teat! If the foal gets on the bag first, then your vet will have to tube the colostrum into the foal the following morning! This is only necessary if she has lost her colostrum of course.

Her bag should look very much like this one before foaling

Very likely! So far this year, out of the 26 foals we have on the ground, 18 have been born between 5.30pm and midnight!!!

Thanks S_N... I think she has leaked something over the past few days because her teats have been sticky (lovely, I know!) But there is no signs of the yellowy stuff yet which is the thing I am looking for at the moment.

Her vulva has gone fluffy (I hope you know what I mean
laugh.gif
) and is very easy to part now (again, lovely). Her quarters have slackened, but to be honest I do not think they will slacken much more now as they are really soggy. I know some mares concave in the quarters, but she is quite well covered and from other mares I have seen ready to foal, I don't think hers will look obviously slackened as a TB type would do.

Her bag had reduced a bit as she had been out for a bit by the time this picture was taken, but even when I looked this morning it still had the crease between the two, so not expecting anything exciting just yet

I honestly think she still has around a week to go.

Will she let you touch her bag? If she will, try and milk a tiny amount out of her. If it is egg yolk colour or clear, you are not close, as it is not yet milk!

She will let me touch it, but is not too thrilled if I start prodding around
laugh.gif

Nothing was coming out of them this morning though, so like I said, I am bargaining on a week! That is if there is still a foal in there and she is not having a phantom (everything is crossing my mind at the moment)!

She is looking fantastically well.
Fingers crossed she wont keep you hanging on much longer but she is still looking pretty chilled about it all.
Has she started what i call cramming yet.
Mine usually start to stuff themselves stupid for a couple of days before they foal.
sort of in fits and starts.

Oh no, looks like you'll have to start ordering takeaways delivered to the stables

WOW she's huge!!!

Just been looking at the lasy pics of Josie I took before D arrived. These were 3 days before he made an appearance, if I remeber rightly:

Dont know if that gives you a clearer idea, but was fun looking back through the piccies

Thanks Lenny... everything looks ready apart from the waxing up and running milk side of things, but in my mind that is the thing I am really looking for before getting any ideas of her being due.

Sallyf - she is not really too bothered about food at the moment, which is not like Hannah. She is leaving quite a bit of her breakfast and not eating much haylage but that is probably because there is not much room in there at the moment.

So it looks as though i am going to be in the caravan for quite some time then I guess from the pictures of Josie and people's comments

Wow, she is big now! Quaters don't look collapsed enough quite yet though, when is she due? I bet you're soooooo excited, if a little tired!

Ooooh Hannah, you've got to have him tonight! Well early hours of tomorrow morning!

Becki please tell her the above message, lol.
Oh dear i really hope she doesn't keep you waiting too long
crazy.gif
oh, and us!!!

Arghhhhhhhhhhh!
Come on Hannah! mummy needs some sleep *bbs passes Becki coffee* and I wanna see your bootiful foal!!
grin.gif

She looks pretty big to me, most of the foals which were born at the stud when I worked there were born from Midnight onwards.
Twas nice coming to work to find another new kid on the block lol

Finger x you arent waiting for much longer hun.

Aw, she is just lovely.

See, everything else looks ready, just the bloody waxing is causing some serious issues!!! Her udders are huge (she has very saggy ones normally and there is not much more to fill now), her bottom is totally soggy and her vulva is long and fluffy... so why no wax?!

Here is a pic of Amber approx 5 hours before she had her foal. Sorry its a bit rubbish. She did not wax up, but she did produce milk when "milking" her udders.

She did have some blood/ discharge from her vulva though.
