My mare has generally been a real steady sort, she is 14.2 and purchased from auction in Wales for £650 back 1992(I know its a while ago), but I think its still possible to get them for a bargain if you look around, good luck and hope you find something

I know of a 16.1hh hunter who is so so so gentle and sweet who is free to a good home because he is ready to retire from hunting and be a happy hacker..... but 16.1hh may be too big...?

Wildwest - I am a 5ft podge but my maxi cob is 16.3hh (a heavyweight to boot) and we do great cos he's a mannerly chap. So a 16.1hh may be the answer if s/he's mannerly on the ground and on board.

I also had a youngster that proved after a few weeks to be too much (mine waved its front legs in the air whilst you were on baord) and I certainly didn't anything big but I have had a whale of a time with my George so worth a look at something that comes with a good rep?

PS How've you got on with your gorgeous coloured?

hi sold the little coloured he was far too much for me .
and hes knocked my confidence for 6.
well done you on your 16.3hh maxi cob ..........how do you get on lol ?
towerhamlets has reccomended a 15.1hh but im sticking at my 15hh max

I'm 5ft1 and i ride him no problem... he's a TB so he's narrow and so i dont look that small on him...

He is such a lovely boy and really sweet to hack out anywhere... let me know if you're interested i can put you in contact with the owners

I agree I think you may struggle to find a 100% horse for your budget unless you don't mind if it has some soundness issues.

My NF is probably the sort you are looking for - I got on him today after two weeks of not being ridden due to snow and hacked out for an hour on the roads and he was 100% and has been like this since he was just turned 5 when I first got him a few years ago. He was a lot more expensive than your budget (but he also jumps and is show quality).

If I were you I would be patient and look at saving up a bit more money over the next few months (perhaps putting aside money you would normally have spent on livery/food/shoeing etc) it would give you more choice and think of it as an investment and it would perhaps avoid disappointment.

Really sensible hacking horses that are easy to handle on the group and ridden and have no ailments or soundness issues are not cheap.

How about this horse?

I don't know where Emma gets her horses from, I viewed one a couple of months ago myself - not what I wanted but Emma was very helpful showing her to us.

Just off the M2, A299 at Whitstable - although a bit of a trek it is an easy route.

She's also got another for sale as a happy hacker - but it is only 5yrs. You might be able to view 2 in a single trip.
