Some may recall my previous thread where I was almost at my wits end!
Things have of course improved with the weather drying up and being able to turn out but its still a daily grind and its not realistically going to change much I feel.
I have two horses (and daughter has a pony) one I was looking to loan out or share but he suddenly retired- he's no good as a companion.
The other is semi retired as in he can hack with care- ie he cant cope with deep going so its been gentle road work all winter, he also needs care on hard ground. When the ground is good he loves a canter but does require looking after to remain sound.

Finding help with no 1 is obviously out of the window. Ive removed his shoes to help with costs but tbh its not really enough and its more time that I struggle with.
So I thought about offering No 2 to share (well I saw a mature gent looking for a horse to ride advert which made me wonder)
Problem is how would you go about this? When anyone came too look at the first horse I was able to hack with them to see how they rode/treated my horse and how they coped/give advice if needed. I have nothing to ride with potential sharers now though and am not on a livery yard so its just him that go's out.
My other option is too send him back too his real owner- I have him on a permanent loan basis but they own a yard so could take him back but he'd be chucked back into his old field where he got bullied endlessly and spent every second windsucking on the fence miserably.
He's kind of my pride and joy! and id be devastated if he went OR if I let someone ride him and they broke him or ragged him though fields.

What would you do?

Could you walk or cycle out with sharer while they are trying him? Or borrow a ride from a friend once potential sharer has met you/ horse and ridden a little in the field (so you know they are not a complete wally!)

Could the retired horse be moved to proper retirement livery (£30 a week ish) to give you more time or is this cost unfeasable?

Could you look for sharer for your daughters pony - with summer coming up ponies can often cope with being ridden more than once a day so might work

Sounds like tough love time.

Shoot one, return one.

Haha, Yes I need to toughen up quite seriously ;)

A bike is a fabulous idea- I like it! I have nothing too borrow, if I had a friend close enough id just let them ride out with sharer, yes they could also now ride in the field a bit at first.

Pony is very very unsuitable too be shared (and that's putting it mildly!) Hes not currently ridden due to having a op in January. This is another reason a sharer may be useful as id have someone to ride out with when I can bring him back into work

Sorry missed the retirement livery bit. Its something I have looked at and enquired about but yes in all honestly £120 a month extra is just not possible. I pay for my field as a whole so id save nothing by not having him there either.

Was going to suggest going along on a bike. My mum used to come out with me on her bike, apart from when I trotted up hills/went for a gallop she kept up.

I'm too much of a softie- I'd go for the sharer option so I could keep both.
