could you perhaps put her on loan whilst you get your back sorted - did you go to the docs? i would be asking for mri

i really do think you will regret selling her - she looks a hard to find sort. Its hard when you are in pain it depresses you, you need something to keep you going - when i had mine done (disc removed) i couldnt ride for 3 months (told me 6 -but i was back in saddle in 3) and I paid for my friend to have lessons on her so that she was kept in work and when i felt well enough i lunged her.

I have a real thing for your mare. If you do put her up for sale please don't make me see the ad. There's just something about her that catches my eye every time I see your signature. Hubby would leave home if I had another one!

Because she is so special to you I wonder whether you would be better to find a decent loaner for a while and see what can be done to get your back better. I still think you'd really regret it if you sold her, although obviously only you know just how bad your back is and whether it is feasible to keep her or not.

Really sorry for your predicament.

5 years ago I made the decision I wasn't going to ride again and let one of my horses go. I was lucky as her original owner bought her back and I know she has retired now and is happy.
I occasionally ride my daughter's horse but I always suffer for it afterwards. I guess it is knowing what is wrong with your back and if it is treatable. I have arthritis in my spine due to an old injury from falling off a horse when I was 19.

I agree with others though, if you can loan her until you really know you can let her go. Selling is so final........

I would also loan rather than sell, I had a back back for two years and could hardly move let alone ride. Luckily (?) it coincided with my mare doing a tendon, so we were both off together. I did find though that after a good rest and I began riding again walking was actually quite beneficial, trot and canter a no go for quite a while, but I am riding 'normally' now, so there is hope!
