Hello,
I have recently completely cleared out my mares bedding and put her a fresh new bed down. The new bed has been down for a week and suddenly it really smells of urine. Part of me thinks it could be due to her being in season so the smell is stronger then usual.
I remove all the wet I can see every time I clean her out but it smells really strong.
She is on sawdust. Gets cleaned out every day and only comes in overnight.
Anyone had any joy with stable deodorises? Or have any tips that they can share?

Is there a patch under your mats where urine could pool? Or might something be seeping into your stable from next door? I presume you are mucking out in full every time? Not trying to deep litter?

The best thing to do is to remove everything - including mats if you have them. Powerwash the lot. You can also scrub your floor with something like green goo (yes it really is called that). If it smells to you then it is worse for her and you risk respiratory problems if you don't deal with it.

Then assuming you are mucking out daily make sure you chuck the whole bed back to get everything and then re-lay. If you can on dry days it helps to leave the bed back all day for the floor to dry before re laying it at night. If you don't have mats they might be worth getting - but make sure your stable floor is even and doesn't have places for wet to pool. If you do have mats and pooling is the problem then you are, I'm afraid, going to be stuck with regular lifting and cleaning until you can get the floor re-laid.
 
It sounds like poor drainage to me, does the floor slope gently towards a drain? If not urine will pool, seep into the floor and smell. You will need to ask the YO about having the floor relaid to enable it to drain. You might find that a bed base of wood pellets or megazorb is more absorbent and will stop the urine seeping into the floor.
