So I’m in a bit of a predicament, my horse has been in since November due to injury and then the fields closed. She’s recently been lame but everytime I try to walk her in hand she’s bronks gets away and goes back to the stable. This would be fine if she was well behaved to ride which is a new problem we’re having. My first thought would be that she needs turning out but I’ve tryed turning her out and again she turn around and runs back to the stable? What on earth do I do she just seems to want to stay in the stable but obviously she can’t. (Back, teeth and shoes checked)

Either sedate her so you can walk in hand without her messing about or do the same to get her in the field if she is ok physically to turn out, it may need two people to get her there but I don't see how you cannot get her in the field, shut the gate and let her go, she sounds as if she is in part so used to being in the stable she feels safe there and the longer you let her take control the worse it will get, do whatever it takes to get her out, get the vet to sedate if sedalin is not enough.

As pas said company is probably essential so she feels safe when out.

I had a feeling that would be the next step. She physically won’t go in the field, she rears up spins about and runs off. She’s a hefty 16.3 ID so I’ve try many times 2 people holding her or not even if there’s another horse

Get her properly sedated and she will have no choice but to go out, once she has had a chance to settle, you may need to leave her for a day or two if allowed, she should be less wound up and become easier.

What are you leading her with? Headcollar? Bridle & bit? Chifney? Lunge line or short rope?

My mare has been on box rest since November so I feel your pain. Ycbm has already asked but what are you leading her in. Mine does not come out of the stable without a bridle on. When I first started hand walking her I filled my pocket with pieces of carrot and pretty much fed her the whole time.
If she isn't food motivated then I would sedate. When mine goes out she will be having a bit of sedalin before.

Yes I lead her in a bridle, I tried lungeing her yesterday but she just went nuts calling for her next door neighbor and I think she’s lame again so we’re back to square one anyway

As the others have said get a good few tubes of sedalin and get into a routine of giving her some twice a day and get her out of the stable even for a walk round the school, then using a bridle and lunge line walk her to the field, she might be better if you walked her to the field with a horse she goes out with, but for first time turnout you need a good half a tube of sedalin.

I would not use a chifney as the consequences for the horse should it get loose are too dire .
I would get a large supply of sedaline from the vet and turn out with a sensible friend you might need to experiment with the sedaline first to see how much it takes .
I would also give less forage at night so the horse is going into the field hungry.
You may have to do this for several days but I think once settled the horse will get its brain round normal life again .
I would would be looking to get the horse well settled in a roultine of going out all day and coming in sensibly before I moved on to anything else .

The chifney/bridle is a catch 22. I would also lead her in a chifney but like GS said it would be far worse if she got loose.

IMO bridles are usually crap for leading if you have a strong horse. They do next to nothing if they decide to ****** off, much like if you're riding them and they take off!

If I were you I'd lead her in a chifney with a rope that is short enough to not get trodden on if she gets loose, and start giving her a feed in the field and letting her come in again. You need to build her time up in there slowly - she sounds agoraphobic.
