I've seen them for under £5 on ebay, so I'd buy from there personally! Or make your own from some fleece.

Do oven gloves not get wet and dirty when you put stirrups away?

Well no hopefully no one is using them to cook afterwards :D But I wouldn't want to be bringing home or leaving in the tack room something that will go wet and mouldy either. Maybe they don't though!

My homemade ones are fleece so at least they should dry out when the wet, muddy stirrups go inside :D

Cheapest nice ones I have seen on ebay was £3.88, but they are the separate ones.

I tried oven gloves, they weren't quite big enough for my XL 13.5cm stirrups. I also prefer the over the saddle ones, as it spends less time in the dirt/lost than individual ones.

ETA, tried a different search, found high viz fleece ones for £2.98. Searched for "Stirrup Covers" and cheapest first...

Over the saddle ones are on the same search, £10.98.

I'm not sure how much they'd cost over there, but I have QHP stirrup covers. They were around 10€ when I bought them. They're a bit more robust compared to fleece (which I used to use and they were fine but the elastic wore out and I just happened to spot these in a nice pattern), and I've been quite satisfied with them so far. Good value I'd say.

I have a saddle cover by QHP. A different pattern to the above but the material is robust.
My homemade stirrup covers ( pictured earlier ) now have a strap added which joins them together and goes over the saddle. They are thick cotton gabardine lined with towelling and a drawstring with fastener. They wash and dry easily.

Can someone explain the purpose of these to me please? I’ve never quite understood it if I’m honest.

I have a brand new saddle I have waited over a year for and want to keep it from being scratched or the dirt going on it, I’m allergic to stuff in leather cleaner so try to avoid cleaning my tack to often

Horze Neoprene ones. Last really well, can run up stirrups as normal and cheap.

I hate oven glove style ones it just annoys me looking at them.

Griffin Nuumed do quilted 'oven glove' style ones but obviously designed specifically for stirrups so a bit bigger than oven gloves. I just put mine in the washing machine to keep them clean and they come out looking like new.

I've got cage stirrups so can't run them up - I have stirrup clips that I clips stirrups to the front of my saddle so wanted covers to stop them making the saddle pad either wet & muddy or just wet depending on if I've hosed the stirrups off or not ?

I’ve got these too. They are easy to use, hold big stirrups, and after a few years still as good as new. Think they’re worth the £30 tbh. Definitely saved my saddle as the Jin stirrups I had were intent on destroying it!

Oven gloves you say… any one got a photo of them in use I’m trying to picture it and can just see my Mickey Mouse gloves (mitt style) stuck on either side of the saddle

Your post made me curious, so I googled, and found this photo:

How amusing as this is my photo from many years ago. Didn’t like oven gloves so switched to HORZE neoprene ones. This must have been taken a long time ago as binned those saddles years ago! Back in 2014 maybe.

I hope you don't mind I shared it, I think there's still time for me to edit my reply if you want to. Didn't find it on HHO, otherwise I would've said who had posted it.
